Mr. Mattox is a 1980 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California in 1983. He has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 1983. Mr. Mattox's practice emphasizes trial work in District and Superior Courts.

Mr. Mattox is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association and the 22nd Judicial District Bar. He has served as Chairman of the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation, Chairman of the City of Statesville Board of Zoning Adjustment and as a Director of the Iredell County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Mr. Mattox is a lifelong resident of Statesville, North Carolina. He is married to April Smith Mattox and has two children.
